SAGBUTT

No, this is not a post about what happens to Wenches who eat too many chocolate waffles and too much chocolate zucchini cake. This is a post about an upcoming event here in the seriously soggy Seattle area.

Karen, over at Greenwalks, is organizing a garden bloggers get-together. You are cordially invited. Hopefully, this will be the first of many such gatherings. Here are the details.

WHAT:

Seattle Area Garden Bloggers United To Talk (SAGBUTT*)

WHEN:

Saturday 7 February 2009

12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Conference Room

Elisabeth C. Miller Library

Merrill Hall, Room 102

Center for Urban Horticulture,

UW Botanic Gardens

3501 NE 41st St.

Seattle, WA  98195

Map and directions are available here.

*SAGBUTT is not our official name. Karen came up with it as a joke, but I couldn't help running with it. Perhaps we will come up with a more dignified name during our first meeting.

Sounds like a lot of fun -- wish I were closer. (I thought perhaps SAGBUTT was going to be a post-holiday lament. :)

I must admit I kept avoiding this post so I wouldn't have to comment on the title. So many things came to mind....

Hope you all have fun. Someday the world will reach our remote corner of Ohio and we will be able to meet actual like-minded people. Until then we will live vicariously, and not make the rude comments invited by the title of this post.

Hi Wenches. You rock! Thanks for the link. I think it's a lot easier to read about the gathering the way you listed it - I need to get with the formatting times. Maybe something we can talk about at SAGBUTT No. 1! :) Oh man, I'm probably going to regret even jokingly suggesting that name.

It's not a name you forget, though, is it! I'm looking forward to it. Paula

I too thought that Sagbutt was a condition brought on by not enough gardening and a bit too much chocolate. Got a great chuckle out of it. I hope the get together is fun and that you report back to us about it.

SAGBUTT? Phonetics-brain went bounding right over numerous possible tasteless anatomical images to....Musical Instruments of the Renaissane and Baroque!

SAGBUTT is in fact an alternate spelling for the SACKBUT, a precursor of the trombone considered highly suitable for performing outdoors!

Thank you Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sackbut for multiple linguistic and musicological elaborations on this theme. Dunno if anyone could bring a Sackbut to the meetup, but if you need a non-anatomical logo, I SUPPOSe this could do.

Greetings Nancy! Our only lament is that between the snows and the rains of biblical proportion we haven't been able to do anything in the garden for weeks. What a difference from last year!

Hi Alan! I figured only those of hardy constitution would venture to explore this post. The same can probably be said about our blog title! Thanks for taking the risk and coming over to explore.

Hey Karen! I just couldn't resist the title. Hee hee hee. As for the formatting, well, I didn't want it to format it like that. But I couldn't get it to do what I wanted. I sure hope one of the saggybutts will be a techie guru who can give us pointers on this stuff.

Greetings Paula! Long live SAGBUTT! I too am so looking forward to the group forming and growing--you all better at least have a second meeting because I will be stuck in a work related training during the first meeting. Wing Nut will be representing the Wenches all by herself.

Will do Jodi! Sadly we have done little other than stare longingly out the window at our garden. Between snow and rain, things are very soggy here. But this entire week is supposed to be dry. Woohoo!

Hey RantWoman! I know the French equivalent of a SACKBUT!!! It's called a SAQUEBOUTE. But I didn't make the connection with SAGBUTT. What are the chances that someone in the group will know how to play one, or it's modern day cousin?

I think I actually know someone who (at least used to) own/play a sackbut. I thought of that connotation too but thought it was too odd to mention. My mom used to be in a Renaissance music group, so I grew up with krumhorns and sackbuts coming out and in my ears! Funny.

That's wild Karen! I love it.

Oh if only you were closer :)

If you yatter as long as we do whenever any of us bloggers meet over here, then sagbutt could still be a most appropriate name ;)

Have fun!

Too funny VP! Wouldn't it be wonderful to have an international garden bloggers get-together!

Personally I love the acronymn. Maybe our logo could be a version of those plywood cutouts that adorn lawns in the midwest, of the backside of a woman bent over her garden. :)

Looking forward to meeting you.

I love the acronymn too Molly! I remember seeing those garden ornaments while living in the midwest. The first meeting of SAGBUTT should be a fun gathering.

LOL...I'm hoping hubby doesn't have to work that weekend so he can watch the kids...and the camel. Unless you all want me to bring him along!!! Kim

If we were to hold an international event we could call it SINGBUTT (Some International and Noteworthy Garden Bloggers United to Talk) Or WAGBUTT (Worldwide Assembly of Garden Bloggers United to Talk)
I am wagging just thinking about it...

Curmudgeon said...

I'll bet if you brought Gizmo you'd be the most popular girl at the meeting Kim! LOL! Sure hope you can make it.

WAGBUTT is awesome Jean! Heeheehee. Makes me think of the bumper sticker--Bark less, Wag more!

What a great idea, WWWenches - and the name is hilarious and so perfect for the wry and ironic Pacific Northwest. Spring Fling sounds quite sedate in comparison ;-]

I know a few gardeners who live up your way but they don't have blogs - bet they'll wish they'd started one when they see what fun you have.

Would love to hear how your meeting turned out. We are going to visit my daughter in the Seattle area this weekend...if it would have been last weekend I might have been tempted to drop in.
