Gâteau chocolat & courgette

P1010412rev

Yesterday evening when I got home from work there was a delicious surprise waiting for me on the kitchen counter. Wing Nut had the day off and spent part of it baking. She tried her hand at a new recipe and it was a grand success in my opinion. She made a chocolate zucchini cake. But this wasn't just any chocolate zucchini cake. This was  Clotilde Dusoulier's Chocolate & Zucchini Cake.

If you look carefully at the picture, you can see flecks of green in the cake. Wing Nut didn't put any nuts in the cake as the recipe on Dusoulier's website calls for. One thing I really liked about this particular recipe is that it calls for less fat and sugar than most other recipes for C&Z cake that I've found out there on the Internet. And the cake is so incredibly rich! Dusoulier mentions one possible alteration to her recipe which I'm curious to try; she gives the option of using olive oil instead of butter for a slightly peppery flavor.

My 2009 continues to smell and taste of chocolate. How about yours?

MMMM, wonderful. I've had chocolate zucchini cake and love it, but right now I'm getting limited amounts of chocolate as my insides recover from surgery. However, even a little bit is a wonderful treat....

Oh lordy, that is bringing back memories! I think that was the only way my mom ever got me to eat zucchini when I was a kid, ha ha. Always was baked in a square pan with chocolate chips studding the top, cut in squares and served warm with vanilla ice cream melting next to it. Wow, nice present, good going Wing Nut!

Oh my, that sounds v. nice indeed. I could help finish that off if it's a problem.

We need to do more to bring the name Clotilde back.

Yum. The best part of it is that my family would avoid it since you can see the green. I'd get to eat it all.

I checked out that fabulous recipe and it is FABULOUS ! .. I might even break my code of ethics and bake it (ethics being I don't cook ?) haha .. it is interesting about the olive oil suggestion .. that has my attention too !
What ever is in it .. it looks so scrumptious !!

Hi Jodi! Thanks for stopping by. Glad to see you getting around--the blogosphere. Hope you are on the fast track to recovery.

Hi Karen! Wing Nut outdid herself on this one.

Hi Chuck! I love Clotilde more and more with each new recipe that Wing Nut makes from her cookbook.

Hi Daphne! Green flecks in a chocolate cake can be a little odd. I didn't notice the green flecks until I got the pic on the computer and enlarged it.

Are we luring you away from your honey dates and back to chocolate, GardenJoy???

You said it J!

Hola Cuban! Onions and garlic, tomatoes and eggplant, basil nad parsley. It's so easy to get from cake to ratatouille, n'est-ce pas?
